A beacon of hope for vulnerable girls in Goa.
Aashiyana Children's Home is a registered, government-recognised social welfare initiative providing safe shelter, education and dignity to girls who need it most.
Profile of the Trust
Aashiyana Children's Home is a registered non-governmental project recognised by the Government of Goa, India, registered under the Directorate of Women and Child Welfare (Reg. No. CH/JJA/Cert/01/2022-23).
Aashiyana is a social welfare initiative of the Madhur Sandesh Centre Trust (MSC) - a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation registered in Goa (Reg. No. 842/Goa). MSC was founded in November 1996 by a group of concerned citizens from Vasco da Gama, Goa, with the purpose of helping, assisting and supporting initiatives that promote intra-lingual and inter-religious communal harmony, moral upliftment, and extending a helping hand to suffering humanity.
Operational since 2010, Aashiyana has supported more than 200 girls from marginalised backgrounds, helping them rebuild their lives through shelter, education and emotional care.
Our management committee
Aashiyana is run by a dedicated team of community members and welfare professionals who oversee its operations and ensure the highest standards of care.

What we set out to do, every single day.
Shelter & care
Provide a safe, secure environment for children who are at risk or have been abandoned or orphaned.
Education
Ensure every child has access to formal and informal education - the most powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty.
Psychosocial support
Offer counselling and emotional support to help children heal from trauma and build resilient mental health.
Skill development
Provide opportunities to develop life skills and vocational abilities, enhancing independence and future prospects.
Faith & culture
Respect and promote the philosophical, cultural and faith values of each child, while safeguarding them from exploitation by cults and extremist faith educators.
Community welfare
Extend our reach beyond residential care - through community schooling, after-school tutorials, women's health camps and parent counselling.
Goa: paradise for many. Peril for the vulnerable.
Goa is one of India's most beloved tourist destinations, but its very openness creates serious risks for children from poor families.
A trafficking hub
According to the 2021 Crime in India Report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Goa is at the top of the country in trafficking incidents per capita - recording one case per lakh population, against the national average of 0.2.
Children from neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka are trafficked under false promises of "better lives," often ending up in begging, forced labour or worse.
Driven by poverty
Families living in deep poverty are most susceptible. Lack of education limits opportunity, and traffickers exploit this gap with promises of jobs and food. The economic disparity hidden behind Goa's tourism boom is profound - and predatory networks know it.
In January 2025, Karnataka police rescued a 20-month-old baby girl said to have been sold by her parents in Sangli, Maharashtra, to a family in Goa - a stark reminder of how organised these networks have become.
Sexual exploitation & labour
Trafficked children are subjected to sexual exploitation, forced labour and engagement in illegal activities - often under the control of organised traffickers operating in the shadows of the tourism economy.
Underreported, under-resourced
Inadequate awareness in local communities, combined with corruption and underreporting of crimes, allows these networks to operate unchecked. International tourist routes amplify the risk.
This is the world Aashiyana exists to push back against - one girl, one safe night, one school year at a time.
